Sixteen girls and boys from Haiti, singing and dancing, will be performing at 11 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 2, at the Wiscasset Church of the Nazarene, 255 Gardiner Road, Wiscasset. The choir is in its third year and its tour includes presentations in New England, New York and New Jersey, as well as concerts in their own country when they return. Each year, new members are brought to the U. S. after training and rehearsals in Haiti.

The vision for Hope Haitian Choir has its roots in the adoption of a Haitian baby by founders Barb and Chuck House. After several years of involvement in projects connected with the orphanage in Port- au- Prince, the first choir was organized in 2012. Barb House, a music teacher and performer, directs the choir, writing and choreographing many of the songs.

Goals for the choir include developing young leaders who will return to their people, better equipped to make a productive impact.

Their hope is to encourage each child to realize the potential which God has placed in him or her, according to the group.

Each year the choir attempts to raise support for a key project in Haiti, which will benefit many. This tour is focused on building a church and school on land recently purchased in the village of Lamarre, Haiti, through which they hope to bring an international sponsorship program to this impoverished region.
