SOUTH PORTLAND — James Gilboy has resigned from his seat on the school board because his wife has accepted a part-time position in the school district.

Gilboy’s term would have expired in November. The City Council discussed the matter Monday evening and determined that Gilboy’s seat will remain unfilled until the November election, said Jim Ganley, city manager.

Gilboy’s wife, Beth, will be a parent liaison at Kaler Elementary School, said Kathy Germani, assistant superintendent. The grant-funded, part-time position will be overseen by Opportunity Alliance, a nonprofit that works to build stronger families and communities.
