BARRE, Vt. — Cleanup is underway in Barre after flooding that led to the evacuation of about 15 city residents and left streets covered in slippery mud.

On Monday morning local residents and businesses were pushing mud from sidewalks and driveways.

Karen Dente-George was helping move mud away from Dente’s Market. She says her father kept the worst of the flooding outside and they hope to reopen later Monday.

Gov. Peter Shumlin, Barre Mayor Thomas Lauzon and others are planning to discuss the flooding Monday afternoon.

In addition to Barre, roads that were closed or reduced to one lane include Route 2 in Plainfield and Route 14 in East Montpelier.
