Sue McCarthy of South Portland won five gold medals in track and field at the National Senior Games, held July 7-15 at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota.

McCarthy, 52, placed first in the 50-54 age group in four individual events – 50 meters, 100, 200 and 400. She was also on the victorious 400 relay team, which missed the age group world record by one-tenth of a second.

Three Maine senior women’s basketball teams earned medals at the National Senior Games in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Maine Endo, playing in the 50-54 age group, won the silver medal in Division 2, and the Maine Triple Threat finished second in 55-59 Division 1. The Maine Pioneers placed third in 65-69 Division 2.

Dustin Carroll aced the 17th hole at Nonesuch River Golf Course on July 12. Carroll used a pitching wedge for the 132-yard shot.

Mike Francoeur used a 9-iron to card a hole-in-one on the 125-yard fourth hole at Portland Country Club on July 15. Tom McNaboe, Oakley Jones and Jake Jones witnessed the feat.

Lydia Ouellette, a 10-year-old playing from the junior tees, aced the third hole at Fox Ridge Golf Club on July 16. Ouellette used a 7-iron for the 61-yard shot, which was witnessed by her father, Matt, as well as Zoe Basque and Sean McCormick.

Larry Perry made a hole-in-one on the 145-yard fourth hole at Nonesuch River Golf Course on July 17. Perry, playing with Etna Smith and Angel Silva, used a 7-iron.

Jon Breton hit a 7-iron 163 yards for an ace on the third hole at Fox Ridge Golf Club on Monday. Gary Caiani and Dan Farnham witnessed the shot.

Tommy Thompson aced the sixth hole at Poland Spring Golf Club on July 16. Thompson used an 8-iron on the 143-yard shot, which was witnessed by Raf Barajas and Brandon Tiner.
