The Dancing Elephant, serving Indian cuisine in downtown Westbrook since late 2011, has closed its doors.

The owner, Iqubol Hossain, was not available for comment at the restaurant Monday afternoon, but a post on the Dancing Elephant’s Facebook page said the restaurant would be closing July 19.

Last year, the business announced plans to expand to two locations, with work under way on Dancing Elephant II in Fairfield. However, in July, the restaurant took to social media to announce the Westbrook closing and the relocation to Fairfield.

“Sadly, today is our last day open at our Westbrook home. We’re excited for our move to Fairfield, but we’ll never forget your smiles and support – hope to see you before we go,” a post said Saturday.

On Monday, a restaurant employee confirmed that the business was closed, and beginning the shift in locations.

In October 2014, the Dancing Elephant began hosting live music in Westbrook, hoping to bolster business.
