A Brunswick man is in fair condition at Maine Medical Center after he was thrown from his motorcycle on Flying Point Road Sunday night.

The crash occurred near the Brunswick town line and reported at 6:41 p.m.

Freeport Police Chief Gerald Schofield said Jeremy A Gray, 36, of Brunswick, was driving south on Flying Point Road and “braked hard,” causing the rear tire to go off the road onto the soft shoulder. When Gray tried to straight the motorcycle, he lost control and hit a mailbox. He was thrown from the motorcycle and ended up in the roadway while the motorcycle landed in a ditch.

Acting Freeport Fire Chief Paul Conley said Freeport Fire and Rescue responded. Gray was wearing a helmet.

First responders determined his injuries may be critical. They began treatment and requested a Life- Flight helicopter to the scene. The helicopter was on the ground in about six minutes and landed right on the road about a quarter-mile from the scene. LifeFlight paramedics took over patient care and air-lifted Gray to Maine Medical Center in Portland where he was listed in fair condition Monday afternoon.

The road was closed down during rescue efforts and while Freeport police continued their investigation. Due to the initial apparent extent of injuries, Brunswick Police Department’s collision reconstruction unit responded and conducted a crash reconstruction.
