
The Maine Street area in Brunswick is blooming, thanks to the Village Improvement Association’s sixth annual competition among local businesses for Best Flower Boxes or Planters featuring live plants and flowers.
There were 27 entrants. The winners this year are:
— First prize of $250: Wild Oats Bakery/Cafe at 149 Maine St.
— Second prize of $150: Blessings Home Design at 11 Mason St.
— Most Original prize of $150: Enotecha Athena Wine Bar and Restaurant at 97 Maine St.
— Best New Entry prize of $100: Bank of Maine at 137 Maine St.
The VIA also named five Honorable Mention entries: Brackett Funeral Home at 29 Federal St., Henry and Marty Restaurant and Catering at 61 Maine St., Looking Glass Beauty Salon at 103 Maine St., The Mix Art Suppliers and Objects at 53 Maine St. and Wyler’s Local Market at 148-50 Maine St.
Among the association’s other projectsare the annual plantings of the medians on Maine St., maintaining a number of public gardens in town such as at the Curtis Library and the Gazebo on the Mall, and donating trees in the downtown area.
The Village Improvement Association was founded in 1878.
