BRUNSWICK — Rodney E. Bauer, of Brunswick, was installed as district deputy to the Elks National President for the lodges in the Coastal District of the Maine Elks Association. Bauer was installed at the Order’s 151th Elks National Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana, where over 9,000 members and guests were present. He will serve a one-year term. Last year, the Elks donated approximately $320 million in cash, gifts and time to make our communities better places to live. The Elks vow “So long as there are Veterans, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks will never forget them.” Elks volunteers visit thousands of hospitalized veterans each year in support of both active military forces and retired veterans.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
