Foundation gift supports hospice and home care

Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice was awarded $10,000 from the TD Charitable Foundation, the charitable giving arm of TD Bank.

The funds will support sponsorship of Autumn Night Out, the agency’s annual auction, and a $5,000 grant for Camp Dragonfly, a grief support retreat for children and families. Autumn Night Out raises funds for bereavement support services for patients and family members, as well as care for patients who lack health insurance.

Camp Dragonfly is a component of the Program for Grieving Children and Teens that has provided support for local families for 17 years.

Girl Scouts gives thousands of cookie boxes to charities

Girl Scouts of Maine has donated over 11,000 packages of cookies to various community programs in Maine, including York County Food Rescue, which distributes to 47 food pantries and soup kitchens.

“As a nonprofit, we know the importance of supporting our local organizations,” Joanne Crepeau, CEO of Girl Scouts of Maine, said in a news release. “Giving back is an essential element of Girl Scouting and we are proud to be able to support these organizations and all the wonderful work they are doing in our communities.”

The organization gave 7,500 packages to York County Food Rescue. An additional 3,900 packages were donated to organizations across the Greater Bangor area, including Bangor Homeless Shelter, Shaw House, The Together Place, and Widows and Orphans Food Cupboard.

Teen Parent School receives 40th anniversary donations

The Maine Children’s Home for Little Wanderers recently celebrated the 40th anniversary of the agency’s Teen Parent School program at the Waterville campus with more than 150 former students, staff, board members and donors.

Jim Robbins of Bangor Savings Bank presented Maine Children’s Home executive director Sharon Abrams with a $40,000 check. Lisa Hallee of the Bill and Joan Alfond Foundation also presented a $40,000 donation in celebration of the 40 years.

A new Teen Parent School mentoring program was announced at the event. It will match current Teen Parent School students with past students based on interests and similarity in experiences.
