Lilyan Rosalie Forbes nee Petkus, 89, of Brunswick, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2015, while her daughters sang her favorite hymns to her. Lilyan was born in Lynn, Massachusetts, the daughter of Josephine (Glebus) and Martin Petkus.
She is survived by her daughters Judith Forbes and husband Frank Kearns of Brunswick, Thais Forbes and husband Michael Summers of Tampa, Florida, Tamia Welch and husband Robert of Topsham, a son Robert Forbes and his wife Lori of Biddeford, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, and a sister, Pauline, of Peabody, Massachusetts. Lilyan was predeceased by her husband Robert.
She was very active in Pownal, her home of 59 years. She served on the Mallett Hall committee and many others, was a ballot clerk, a founding member of the Pownal Scenic and Historical Society, and the Pownal Elementary School librarian for 19 years. She was a Past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star. Lilyan was a faithful member of the First Parish Congregational Church of Pownal and the Ladies’ Aid Society.
She loved tending her vegetable garden, reading, and spending time with her friends and her family.
A memorial service will be held at the Pownal Center Congregational Church on Sunday, July 19 at 1 p.m. Donations may be made to the National Scoliosis Foundaton.
