Hartman presiding over Sunday Service

ORR’S ISLAND — Rev. Samuel Hartman will preside over the service Sunday, July 12 at All Saint’s Chapel, located at 9 Cooper Lane, off Harpswell Islands Road/Route 24 on Orr’s Island. St. Mary’s hosts yard sale on Saturday

BATH — St. Mary’s will host a yard sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 11 at 144 Lincoln St., Bath. Two garages will be loaded with bargains including furniture, household goods, clothing, linens, games and toys, small electronics, books, religious items, Christmas decorations, yard and gardening items and more. Baked goods, snacks and soft drinks will be for sale.

BAILEY ISLAND — All Saints by the Sea Episcopal Chapel, located on Washington Avenue, Bailey Island, will hold its second service of the summer season at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, July 12. The celebrant will be the Rev. Ed Greene of Bath. All are welcome.

Martin speaking at Swedenborgian

BATH — The Rev. Ernest Martin will be speaking at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, July 12, at the Bath Swedenborgian Church. He is a fifth generation Swedenborgian and was ordained into the Swedenborgian Church in 1953. His first sermon was preached in February 1944 on a troopship in the North Atlantic on the way to England and then Normandy in World War II. After graduating from Harvard Divinity School and the Swedenborgian seminary, he served parishes in Wilmington, Delaware, and Washington, D.C. He served as President of General Convention for seven years and then as a minister at the Wayfarers Chapel in Los Angeles for nine years. He founded the Temenos Retreat Center in West Chester, Pennsylvania, in 1986 and served as Director until his retirement in 1999. Martin will be speaking on “Rumination on Eternal Life: Presidents John Adams and Thomas Jefferson.”

Lisbon Methodist welcomes Rev. Smith

LISBON — Lisbon United Methodist Church has announced the transition of pastoral leadership. Rev. Elizabeth Bachelder Smith began her ministry July 1 at the church located at 14 School Street in Lisbon Falls. Each year Methodist ministers receive appointments by the Bishop to serve in current or transfer to new churches. Smith’s appointment allows her to return to her home state of Maine after serving as minister for six years with Oakdale UMC in West Boylston, Massachusetts. She has served in several Maine churches during her 32 years as minister.

Iris sale in Edgecomb

EDGECOMB — The eighth annual iris sale at the Edgecomb Congregational Church on Cross Point Road to benefit the Edgecomb Thrift Shop will be held 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 11. Louise Hardina raises German Bearded Iris in Damariscotta. In 2008 she started to divide these for sale to raise money for the shop’s emergency fund needs and fuel assistance This year there will be more than a dozen varieties available. Many of the very special ones are offered in very limited quantities. Prices will be $4-$5 per rhizome. This year’s sale will include only the German Bearded Iris.

The Shop has been open since November 2005. It funds a community lunch every Tuesday for which there is no charge. It is able to donate profits to the community in various ways. Monthly donations are made to agencies that help the elderly and children, and to agencies that help with basic needs. The Thrift Shop is staffed by volunteers and is open 10 a.m. to noon every Tuesday and Thursday at the lower level of the Edgecomb Congregational Church.

Benefit supper in Edgecomb

EDGECOMB — A fund raising supper will be held at the Edgecomb Congregational Church from 5-6 p.m. Saturday, July 18 to benefit the Paul O’Neil Foundation, a Maine foundation whose mission is to help offset out of pocket expenses incurred by families and caregivers of children with long term and life threatening illness. Sponsored by the Mission Outreach Committee, it will be held in the wheel chair accessible church fellowship hall. The menu consists of homemade casseroles, salads, rolls, beverages and elegant desserts. Admission is $8 for adults, $3 for children under 12.
