Pride Manufacturing Co. of Burnham and Longleaf Lumber Inc. of Berwick are being recognized for innovation by the Maine Wood Products Association.

Pride Manufacturing, the world’s largest manufacturer of golf tees, will be awarded the trade association’s Pine Tree Award for its use of technology. Longleaf Lumber will receive the Pine Cone Award for the sustainability practices it uses milling reclaimed lumber to make flooring, paneling, beams, stair parts and other products.

The awards will be presented at a banquet July 21 in Waterville, according to a news release from the Maine Wood Products Association.

Pride, which employs 260 people, recently secured a contract to produce Lincoln Logs toys and supply them to K’Nex Industries of Hatfield, Pennsylvania. K’Nex licenses the Lincoln Logs brand from Hasbro. Manufacturing was in China, but when production is at full capacity, Lincoln Logs will be manufactured solely at Pride’s Burnham plant.

Longleaf’s manufacturing facility in Berwick employs 14 full-time workers. The company ships flooring nationwide and overseas to clients including homeowners, restaurants, offices and retail stores.

The company places a strong focus on sustainable practices. Last year, the company reused one of its old sawdust hoppers as part of a new wood-grinding assembly to recycle more of its waste wood. This year, the company is investing in a new combination storage and office building at its Berwick facility that will host a solar array.
