BRUNSWICK

A Woolwich woman was taken to Maine Medical Center Wednesday night after she crashed into a tree along Route 1 in Brunswick.

Brunswick police and rescue personnel responded to Route 1 northbound a short distance beyond Cook’s Corner Tuesday at 7:08 p.m. Brunswick Police Lt. Tom Garrepy said Leia Graves, 19, of Woolwich was driving a 1997 Jeep Cherokee and drove off the right side of the road and hit a tree. The front air bags deployed.

Graves sustained multiple injuries and was transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland where she was listed in satisfactory condition Thursday morning.

On Tuesday at 1:34 p.m., a crash was reported at the intersection of Union Street and Elm Street.

Garrepy said a 2006 Volkswagen Passat, driven by Yvonne Mikaelian, 52, of Brunswick, crossed Union Street from Elm Street to Cedar Street. Mikaelian crossed into the path of a 2002 Mercury Sable driven by 80- year-old Winifred Silverman of Brunswick traveling south on Union Street, which struck the Volkswagen.

Garrepy said Mikaelian was transported to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick. Silverman complained of leg pain and was checked at the scene but was not taken to a hospital. The crash remains under investigation.
