Drivers of a van and a dump truck were hospitalized following a crash involving four vehicles on Ossipee Trail (Route 25) in Gorham at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday.

The crash shut down a section of the highway, a commuter route, near its intersection with Farrington Road.

In a report, Lt. Christopher Sanborn, acting Gorham police chief, said Alex Julien, 22, who was driving a Ford van, and Philip Mackerron, 57, driving a Mack dump truck, were taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police said Julien was traveling westbound and crossed over the centerline and struck the eastbound dump truck driven by Mackerron, who lost control and crossed over into the westbound lane. The report said Mackerron narrowly missed a Toyota 4-Runner driven by Stacy Weeman, 31.

According to police, Weeman went off the road and was sprayed with gravel from the dump truck that went over the side of the road and rolled over. Police said the Ford van sruck the rear driver’s side of a GMC Yukon driven by Dariane Shaw, 32. The vehicle was forced off the road and struck a utility pole.

“The Maine State Police Commercial Motor Vehicle Division was called to assist with the crash and inspect the dump truck,” Sanborn said in the report.

The van, dump truck and Yukon all “sustained significant damage,” according to police.

Sanborn said Gorham Police Department is reconstructing the crash and cause of the crash remained under investigation.

Sanborn said the highway re-opened about 12:30 p.m.
