From Staff Reports
KENNEBUNK — A deadly fire at 305 Cat Mousam Road in Kennebunk has killed one and left another seriously injured.
The fire was reported around 2:30 a.m. Monday morning, and Maine Department of Public Safety Spokesperson Stephen McCausland said that the deceased man was not able to escape the blaze. He died on the scene, while a third man, who was able to get out, helped the injured man escape by placing a ladder to the second floor.
According to McCausland, the injured man appeared to suffer from severe smoke inhalation and was transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland where he is being treated.
The fire charred all of the top floor and much of the first floor on one side of the two-story home. Fire investigators are still trying to determine the cause.
A Sanford engine and call company, as well as an ambulance from Biddeford Public Safety, responded to the mutual aid call.
Sanford personnel reported leaving the scene around 6 a.m., while Kennebunk Fire Department staff were still on scene as of press time this morning.
