“They’re creepy and they’re kooky, mysterious and spooky, they’re all together ooky, The Addams Family.”

Lake Region Community Theatre will bring the macabre family back to life with its production of the quirky, award-winning musical on the stage of Lake Region High School for two weekends at the end of June.

Though “The Addams Family” features the characters you may remember from the 1960s television show, this play has a devilishly delightful twist.

Wednesday Addams (Shannon Oliver) is still the princess of darkness, but she has grown up and fallen in love with a “normal” young man from a respectable family.

While Wednesday confides in her father, Gomez (Chris Madura), that she has a boyfriend, she asks him to keep the relationship a secret from her mother, Morticia (Mellissa Mattucci). In all their married life, Gomez has never kept a secret from his beloved wife before.

The boyfriend, Lucas Beinke (Andrew Shepard), is sweet and smart, and Wednesday wants him to meet her family.

What happens when Lucas and his parents, Mal and Alice (Steve Mercer and Teresa Dyer), come to a dinner party hosted by the Addams family?

One thing is for sure, during a twisted evening filled with mischief and mayhem, they all discover that “different” is OK.

Rounding out the cast are other members of the family. Pugsley Addams (Payson Avery) loves being tortured by his sister. Grandma (Alma Mattucci) is still feisty at age 102.

Then there’s the hunchbacked Uncle Fester (Peter Allen) and the Frankensteinish butler named Lurch (Ed Haibon).

Coming from the crypt are the Ancestors (Sean Buchanan, Max Evans, Sue Farrington, Joanne Haibon, Bill Libby, Linda Mercer, Jenna Moxcey, Laurie Shepard, Ginnie Spaulding, Jordan Stevens, Emily St. John, Emily Symonds, Lydia Symonds, Doug Warner and Anna Yates), who know that “death is just around the coroner.”

Executive producer is Janet Ver Planck, president of Lakes Region Community Theater. Producers are Chris Madura, Peter Allen and Lew Krainin. Directing the show is Mary Bastoni. Deb Lombard is the choreographer. Costumes are by Michelle Brenner. Madura and Bastoni have designed the set, which was constructed by Chris, Bill Libby and Tom Rebmann. Greg Watkins is in charge of lights and sound.
