The Gorham Town Council is expected to meet behind closed doors next week to interview candidates for the town’s vacant police chief position.

The panel has called a special meeting for 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23, in Conference Room A in Gorham Municipal Center, 75 South St. It will re-convene its meeting at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 25, to continue the interview process.

Lt. Christopher Sanborn has been acting chief since Nov. 4, when Ronald Shepard, now a town councilor, retired.

It is believed the number of applicants for chief has been trimmed to five finalists.
