Expect delays on Harpswell Road by Bowdoin College to continue through this month because of a water main replacement project.
The Brunswick and Topsham Water District is replacing 600 feet of a sixinch cast iron water main along Harpswell Road between College and McLellan streets. Installed in 1930, the main has reached the end of its useful lifespan, according to the district. It will be replaced by a 12-inch main to improve flow, quality and reliability.
General Manager Alan Frasier said there won’t be much interruption in service thanks to the use of temporary mains.
Storey Brothers of Cumberland are the contractors performing the work.
Construction on Harpswell Road began June 1 and is scheduled to continue until the end of the month.
Upon completion, crews will move to River Road in order to replace an eightinch main with a 16-inch main that runs between the intersection of Pleasant Street toward the back-end of Riverside Cemetery, said Frasier.
That portion of the project is scheduled to be completed in early August.
“Both projects are to complete work done two years ago … when the town rebuilt College Street,” said Frasier.
