A Buxton man was arrested Monday on a charge of possessing child pornography.
Members of the Maine State Police’s Computer Crimes Unit and Buxton police charged 27-year-old Peter J. Blanchette with possession of sexually explicit material. He was taken to the Buxton Police Department and released on unsecured bail. He is due in Alfred County Superior Court on Aug. 7.
Blanchette lives at 455 Long Plains Road in the same home where his mother, Alma York, operates the County Corner Kids Daycare. Investigators say there is no indication that the mother knew of her son’s activities or had any involvement. The day care is located in the living quarters of the house.
The Maine Department of Health and Human Services was contacted by state police, because they license the day-care center, which was licensed for nine children. Some of the children were present when investigators arrived at the home late Monday morning.
The Computer Crimes Unit began their investigation after receiving a tip of Blanchette’s activities. That tip did not indicate any involvement with the children at the day-care center. Blanchette’s computer will now be analyzed to determine if there are any victims from Maine.
