Rush-hour traffic on Interstate 295 was crawling Thursday evening, apparently because a tractor trailer went off the road into the median in Falmouth.

State police were urging motorists to avoid that section of the interstate around 6 p.m. because traffic in both directions had long backups.

Motorists also were negotiating downpours as powerful thunderstorms moved through Maine on Thursday afternoon.
