Art show honor for Arnell
Dorette Arnell of Gorham received honorable mention in the recent 20th annual juried art show at the Harlow Gallery in Hallowell.
She captured the honor with her painting titled “Cautionary Tale,” the gallery said in an announcement.
Conference offers family research tips
The Southern Maine Genealogy Conference will be held from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday, May 30, at the Keeley Banquet Center on Warren Avenue in Portland.
“Learn the challenges involved in studying those who ventured far from home and forged a new life,” said Paul Doucette of Gorham, president of the Greater Portland Genealogy Chapter.
The keynote speaker will be Margaret Dube, a certified genealogist who is a native New Englander living in Maine, who will be talking on “A Home Among Yankees: Turn of the Century Immigrants on the Maine Coast.”
There will also be workshops throughout the day on such subjects as DNA genetic genealogy; Franco-American, Italian, Irish, and Scottish genealogical resources; saving your research; using deeds in genealogy; and insights for location research.
