A Unity man died early Wednesday morning in a skateboarding crash.

Christopher Garbinski, 23, was killed while skateboarding with two friends on Loop Road on the Unity College campus just before 1:30 a.m. The men were not students, but had been visiting friends on campus and were headed home.

The three crashed while going too fast to make the left turn at the bottom of the hill onto Quaker Hill Road, according to a news release from Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

Garbinski crashed into a stand of birch trees. His roommates, Sylvanus Egerton, 27, and Luke Munster, 24, administered first aid as did Unity rescue workers shortly afterward, but Garbinski died.

The Office of the State Medical Examiner will examine the body to determine the cause of death, police said.
