Shriners Clinic

On Saturday, May 16, Kora Shriners will conduct a no cost, pre-screening clinic for children who may qualify for free care at a Shriners Hospital. The pre-screening will take place from 9 a.m. to noon at Windham High School. No appointment is necessary. Prescreening is for conditions involving orthopedic problems, burns, cleft palate and more. There is no cost and all care is provided at Shriners Hospitals free of charge. For more information, call 1-800-782-KORA.

Class of 1965

Plans are under way to mark the 50th reunion of the Windham High School class of 1965. Some people need to be located: Pam Adams Aquinaldo, Joseph Blake, Barbara Esty Lesniak, Lyndon Pitt, David Vining, Gary Yates, and Ralph Edmond Young. Public Works Open House

On Saturday, May 16, from 9 a.m.-noon, the Windham Department of Public Works will hold an open house with a “Fill the Bucket” benefit for the Windham Food Pantry. Come join the fun and bring a non-perishable food item or toiletry item to help fill the bucket.

Wellness Fair

A Wellness Fair will be held from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, at Windham Veterans Center. The event is hosted by the Lakes Region Integrative Holistic Health Care Community of the Sebago Lake area. There is no entrance fee. For more information, contact Bob Beane at 749-1857.

Roast Beef Supper

A traditional roast beef dinner with all the fixin’s will be held from 5-6:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, at Windham Hill United Church of Christ, 140 Windham Center Road. $10 for adults, $5 for children under 12.

Decorating the Cemeteries

Saturday, May 16, is designated as the day that the veterans and Scout organizations of Windham come together to place flags on some 800 veterans graves in the 27 cemeteries in Windham. If you would like to support the local VFW and Legion Post in this venture, meet at Arlington Cemetery at 8:30 a.m. that Saturday for assignments. For more information, call 892-1306.

The Irish are Coming

On Monday, May 18, Professor Michael Connolly will present a program about the arrival and settling in of the Irish in Portland and environs. In Windham, one area is still referred to as “Ireland.” The program starts at 7 p.m. and Connolly will have copies of his books available. A membership meeting will follow the program. ‘Thoroughly Modern Millie’

On May 22-24 and 29-31, Windham Center Stage Theater presents “Thoroughly Modern Millie,” directed and choreographed by Jonathan Miele, with musical direction by Patrick Martin. Toby Pennels Memorial Race

On Saturday, May 23, the first Toby’s Dream 5K will be held at Windham High School. The schedule is 8:20 a.m., pre-race celebration; 9:30 a.m., the race starts. Events include little kid’s fun run – Kid’s 1.5 K run – Walk-wheel 1.5K, sanctioned 5K race; variety of post-race raffles – U.S. flags for first 400 runners, T-shirts for first 150 registrants. Run, walk, wheelchair – all proceeds benefit the Toby’s Dream paving project at Windham Veterans Center. A brunch will be available at the high school following the race. Vietnam War 50th Anniversary

This is an open invitation to all Vietnam veterans who served in-country during the conflict to contact Field-Allen Post 148 Americanism Officer, Rodney Voisine. MCC Tour

See what happens behind the walls at Maine Correctional Center. A tour will be held on Friday, May 22, from 1-4 p.m. First come first serve – there will be a limited capacity for the tour – depending on interest there may be additional tours. Tour participants should be at least 18 years old, not have any friends or family incarcerated, and consent to running a back ground checks and arrive with proper IDs. Honoring Our Veterans

American Legion Field-Allen Post 148 will recognize those veterans who have passed away this last year and have connections to Windham, with the Tolling of the Bell Ceremony at the upcoming Memorial Day Ceremony, May 25, at 10 a.m. in front of the Windham High School at the Veteran’s Memorial. The Post has maintained a list of those veterans who had an association with Windham (born, lived, worked etc.) The list covers the period from May 1, 2014, to end of April, 2015. Please review the list below to ensure that your veteran and loved one will be recognized. Got Plants?

Windham Historical Society is holding its annual spring plant and garden sale on Saturday, May 30, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the society’s headquarters on Windham Center Road. Two master gardeners will be on hand to answer your questions. The society is seeking “extra” plantings, which are generously donated each year. Favorites include daylilies, hosta, phlox, chives, garlic, pansies and iris.

This year the society has been donated more than 200 shrubs, and tended them all winter so they are ready to go. If you have extra plants or just want more information, call Susan at 878-3417, email: info@windhamhistorical.org or drop by on Thursday mornings. If anyone would like to drop off plants, herbs, etc. they can do so at their convenience at the society, just leave at the top of the drive (end of the fence) next to wooden box.

Mayfair

Mayfair at Windham Hill UCC will be held from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday, May 30. Mayfair features a craft show and sale from H.O.M.E. Co-op, plants unlimited, a baked goods sale, gently used furniture, the kickoff of a great raffle, children’s; games, a luncheon (hot dogs, sandwiches, mac & cheese, drinks, desserts), and tour of the church.

Theater Group Meets

The Windham Center Stage Theater annual meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 9, at 6:15 p.m. at the Windham Center Stage Theater located in Windham Town Hall. Elections for the 2015-2016 board will take place between 6:15-7 p.m.
