Teenager dies of gunshot wound, no arrests made
Police say an 18-year-old Worcester teen is the city’s third homicide victim of 2015.
Samuel Castro was found unresponsive on Frederick Street Tuesday night, with a single gunshot wound. Police said Wednesday he died later at a hospital.
No one has been arrested in the shooting, which Police Chief Gary Gemme called “senseless” and part of a trend in gun violence in the city going back to last year.
The Telegram & Gazette reports a neighbor across the street from the shooting said he heard at least two gunshots before police arrived Tuesday night. Castro’s friends ran down the street and were met by police. Police said they recovered ballistic evidence and a hat and a small bag left on the sidewalk.
No arrests had been made Wednesday night.

Suspect in robbery of feisty 95-year-old arraigned
A man suspected of trying to rob a 95-year-old World War II veteran who used his cane to fight back in Manchester, New Hampshire, turned himself in to police and called the incident a misunderstanding.
Arthur Kamberis was leaving a pharmacy on May 2 when a man approached and reached for his wallet, which was in a zippered pocket. Kamberis hit him several times with his cane. A passer-by went to help Kamberis, who wasn’t hurt; the attacker fled.
Police searched for the man and circulated a surveillance photo. They issued a warrant last week for 42-year-old David Farnsworth of Manchester.
Farnsworth represented himself at his arraignment Wednesday. WMUR-TV reports he called what happened a misunderstanding and said he never touched Kamberis. His bail was set at $15,000 cash.
NASHUA, N.H.
Canadian held without bail, arraigned on murder charges
A Canadian man is being held without bail after his arraignment on charges that he and another man killed two Nashua women 27 years ago.
Police say 48-year-old Anthony Barnaby and 54-year-old David Caplin stabbed Brenda Warner and Charlene Ranstrom to death in October 1988 in their Nashua apartment.
Three juries failed to convict or acquit Barnaby, the last time in 1990. First-degree murder charges against Caplin were dropped after courts threw out much of the evidence. Both men returned to Canada.
They were ordered extradited last month after police said new DNA evidence and witnesses justify another trial.
Barnaby returned to Nashua Tuesday. He was represented by the public defender at arraignment Wednesday. The public defender did not return a call seeking comment.
Caplin is also jailed without bail.

Three beluga whales make splash at yacht club
Three beluga whales normally seen in the Artic that were seen earlier this week exploring Narragansett Bay have been spotted again near East Greenwich.
Stewards at the East Greenwich Yacht Club say they were out in the water on Tuesday when they heard something splash next to their boat. They then saw the three white whales surfacing next to the boat.
Scientists from the Mystic Aquarium and Institute for Exploration have been monitoring the whales since last Saturday and say they were last seen moving north toward Apponaug in Warwick.
