The Town Office, at Mallett Hall, is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday 8:30 a.m.-6:30 and closed Friday.
Meetings
The Pownal Board of Selectmen will meet Monday, May 18, at 7 p.m., in Mallett Hall.
Planning Board ordinance review workshops are Tuesday, May 19 and 26, at 8 a.m., at Mallett Hall.
The Planning Board will hold its second ordinance review public hearing, Wednesday, May 20, at 6 p.m., in Mallett Hall. On the agenda will be a new version of the current subdivision ordinance and updates to the single-lot ordinance. Draft copies are available at the Town Office.
The Conservation Committee will meet Monday, May 25, at 7 p.m., at Mallett Hall.
Church to host bean supper
On Saturday, May 16, the First Parish Congregational Church, 422 Hallowell Road, Pownal, will host a baked bean and spaghetti supper. There are settings at 5 and 6 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults, $4 for children 5-12 and free for children under 5. To reserve tickets, call Lois at 688-4433.
Folk dancing at town hall
Traditional dance and music from around the world will be celebrated Sunday, May 17, from 4:30-9 p.m., at the Pownal Town Hall, 429 Hallowell Road (Route 9).
The community folk dance, with all dances taught and partners not needed, kicks things off. The cost is $2 per person. At around 6, a potluck supper and jam session will be held. Those who attend are asked to bring food to share and instruments for those who want to take part in the informal music jam. International folk dances begin at 7, featuring music and dance from many world cultures: Balkan, English, French, Israeli and others. Mixed-level dances will be taught, followed by requests.
There is no cost for first-timers. For others, the suggested donation is adults $5, children $3, family $12. For more information, call 688-2293 or email mwendt57@gmail.com.

Food pantry on Wednesdays
The North Pownal United Methodist Church food Pantry on 851 Lawrence Road is now open every Wednesday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. The pantry never knows from week to week what it will be getting. If any farmers or others would like to donate to the pantry, contact the Rev. Ray St. Pierre, 837-0682, or Deb Larrabee, 240-1637. The pantry helps those in need and welcomes everyone.
Men’s breakfast at church
The First Parish Church of Pownal hosts a men’s breakfast the first Saturday of each month at 7:30 a.m., open to any men who want to come. The Rev. John Wentworth leads the discussions.
Church services
Prayer, Praise and Worship, with the Rev. Raymond St. Pierre, is held every Thursday at 6:30 p.m., at the North Pownal United Methodist Church, 851 Lawrence Road. For more information, call St. Pierre at 837-0682 or Lay Leader Deb Larrabee at 240-1637.
North Pownal United Methodist Church worship service is Sunday at 9 a.m. Sunday School for children and adults is at 10:30 a.m.
St. Pierre’s hours are Wednesdays from 8 a.m.-noon p.m., by appointment in the afternoon and Thursdays by appointment. The church phone is 688-4938. The church’s website, www.northpownalumc.org, also has an email link for the pastor.
