A Raymond man died early Friday morning in a traffic accident in Hollis.

According to Lt. David W. Tripp of the Maine State Police, at approximately 3 a.m. state troopers responded to a crash on Route 202 and determined that a tractor-trailer driven by Marc Bowland, 35, of Rhode Island, was heading west when it collided head-on with a passenger car driven by Travis Lowberg, 24, of Raymond, who was heading east. Tripp said Lowberg crossed the centerline into the path of the tractor-trailer and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Bowland sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The tractor caught fire upon impact, Tripp said, but Bowland was able to escape through the passenger side window. The Maine Department of Environmental Protection responded to the scene due to fuel leaking from the truck.

Tripp said it is too early in the investigation to say what led to Lowberg’s vehicle crossing into the opposite travel lane.
