MAINE STATE MUSIC THEATRE Volunteer Project Coordinator Margy Burroughs cuts a ribbon outside the Clancy House Monday, which will serve as summer housing for actors. Behind Burroughs are, from left, MSMT Artistic Director Curt Dale Clark, MSMT Managing Director Stephanie Dupal, Brunswick Town Manager John Eldridge and MSMT Board President Ed Bradley. The ceremony, at 9 Cedar Street in Brunswick, celebrated MSMT’s new housing property, Clancy House. The property, given to the theater by an anonymous donor, serves as a residence for Actor’s Equity Association actors throughout MSMT’s summer season. Since acquiring the house last year, the MSMT Board of Trustees, staff, volunteers, and community members worked on extensive renovations. Actor’s Equity rules state that actors must be housed within one quarter-mile of the space in which they rehearse. This property allows MSMT to rely less on the limited summer rental properties in Brunswick by affording them a company-owned house, guaranteeing an additional four bedrooms every year. “We are infinitely grateful to the donors who have made this property a reality for us. It is an important start to solving our ongoing housing issues,” said Artistic Director Curt Dale Clark, in a prepared statement. “We need more housing for our acting company and we hope the care we’ve shown this property will inspire others to donate to our cause.”
