Explore the Marsh by canoe

Starting on Friday, May 1, the Scarborough Marsh Audubon Center will begin offering its popular Salt Marsh by Canoe tours.

The cost is $11 per person with a 10-person minimum. Pre-registration is required. Call 883-5100 or email smac@maineaudubon.org to sign up or for more information.

This 1.5-hour program provides a special opportunity for participants to explore the state’s largest salt marsh. During this unique paddling adventure, participants become a part of the dynamic Dunstan River habitat observing crabs, fish, feeding birds, edible plants and more.

Tax group holds public forum

The group, Scarborough Maine Advocates for Reasonable Taxes, will hold a public informational meeting regarding the new fiscal year budget at 6 p.m. on Monday, May 4, at The Rock Church, located at 66 Gorham Road. See www.scarboroughtaxes.com for more information about this group and its mission.

Historical society talk to investigate the paranormal

The monthly meeting of the Scarborough Historical Society will be held on Wednesday, May 6, at 7:30 p.m. A brief business meeting is held and followed by a presentation. This meeting is held at the society’s museum and meeting room located at 647 U.S. Route 1 (adjacent to the Dunstan Fire Station). All monthly meetings are free to members of the public. However, donations are always welcomed. The presentation is about one hour in length.

Donna Keniston, Leanne Jackson and Beverly Young operate a nonprofit organization entitled: Spirits Left Behind –Paranormal Investigations. They will describe new techniques of both auditory and visual investigation practices. They will utilize a PowerPoint to show these practices. Their mission statement, “We conduct paranormal investigations for clients who believe they have a possible haunting occurring,” will be discussed.

The Scarborough School Department is holding its third annual Community Dialogue at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 30, in the cafeteria at Wentworth School. This event is an opportunity for residents to help guide the future of the town’s schools. Call 730-4100 for more information.

Church offers e-waste recycling

The First Congregational Church in Scarborough will hold an e-waste recycling event on Saturday, May 16, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. This event is free and open to the public. The church is located at 167 Black Point Road. Call 883-2342 or see www.fccscarborough.com for more information.

Law Day at the library

The Scarborough Public Library is hosting Law Day with local attorney Peter Hatem, noon-1 p.m., on Friday, May 1. General guidance and information on legal resources will be provided.

Library features ‘Into the Woods’

The Scarborough Public Library will show the musical movie, “Into the Woods” at its next Monday Movie Matinee, scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Monday, May 4.

The event is free and open to the public. The movie has a PG rating and a running time of 125 minutes. Based on the hit Broadway musical of the same name, the movie is woven from a collection of Brothers Grimm fairy tales and characters. The movie stars Meryl Streep and Portland’s own Anna Kendrick, among others.
