BOWDOIN
A 65-year-old Bowdoin man was killed Monday afternoon after his dump truck rolled over him as he worked on the transmission.
According to a press release issued by the Sagadahoc County Sheriff ’s Office, the Sagadahoc County Communications Center received a call at 5:48 p.m. that a dead person was laying under a dump truck in the driveway at 562 West Burrough Road in Bowdoin.
Lt. Scott Stewart and Cpl. Ian Alexander responded with the sheriff ’s department, along with Lisbon police officer Jason St. Pierre. Alexander had Bowdoin Fire and Rescue respond as well.
Alexander said a man was coming to ask Alcide Castonguay permission to hunt on his land but found Castonguay pinned beneath his 1-ton dump truck and dialed 911.
When police and rescue personnel arrived, they determined Castonguay was deceased.
Castonguay had spoken to a neighbor at around 1 p.m. Monday and said he was returning home to work on the transmission of his dump truck, a Dodge 2500. At some point between then and 5:48 p.m., “while working alone underneath the dump truck it rolled on top of him, crushing him.”
Alexander said it is possible Castonguay knocked the truck into neutral while working on the transmission from beneath the truck, causing it to roll. A neighbor’s tractor was used to remove the truck.
Castonguay’s wife is out of state on vacation and a stepdaughter lives next door, according to Alexander.
