BRUNSWICK — Curtis Friends, the volunteer organization that supports Curtis Memorial Library, is opening a used book store in Brunswick.

The book store, which will be called Twice-Told Tales, is expected to open July 6 and will be located at 11 Pleasant St.

The name was chosen by popular ballot cast by more than 400 Curtis Library patrons over a two-week period. The store will have retail hours six days a week.

“Trading on the unmatched success of our annual 3-day book sale,” said Curtis Friends President Judith Redwine, “we just thought it was time to make the generosity of our book donors available to the community year-round.”

The name of the bookstore, Twice-Told Tales, as explained by Curtis Friends vice-president Barbara Burr, “…really has two meanings.”

“First, of course, it alludes to the fact that the books are ready to be enjoyed beyond their first reading,” she said. “But secondly, it also honors an iconic American author and Bowdoin College graduate, Nathaniel Hawthorne. It’s a reminder of the literary traditions of the community as still exemplified by the work of Bowdoin College, Curtis Library and, hopefully, Curtis Friends.”
