A Lewiston man who was part of a conspiracy to buy cocaine in Massachusetts and sell it in Maine was sentenced Monday in U.S. District Court in Portland to 14 years in prison.
Lamar Young, 28, sold cocaine base, generally known as crack or freebase, out of an apartment in Lewiston in late 2012 and early 2013, said U.S. Attorney Thomas E. Delahanty II in a news release. Young and other people in the conspiracy bought cocaine powder and cocaine base from suppliers in Massachusetts and turned it into base when needed, packaged it for distribution and sold it, according to court records.
Police arrested Young in March 2014 in the bedroom of a Lewiston apartment, and found cocaine powder, cocaine base, a digital scale and a loaded pistol.
In addition to prison time, Young was sentenced to five years of supervised release for conspiracy to distribute cocaine base and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
