A 2-year-old who wandered from her Ellsworth home Friday was found a short distance away about a half-hour after authorities were alerted.
The girl, who was not identified, was wearing only jeans, a shirt and socks, said the Maine Warden Service, which assisted Ellsworth police and fire crews, the Maine Marine Patrol and the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office in looking for the child. Authorities were told that the girl had managed to open a door and walked outside.
Cpl. John MacDonald, spokesman for the Maine Warden Service, said authorities were told about the missing girl shortly before noon. She was found about 30 minutes later, about a quarter-mile away from her home, by an Ellsworth police officer who was teamed with a search dog and a Marine Patrol officer.
She was taken to Maine Coast Memorial Hospital to be treated for hypothermia, MacDonald said.
