St. Joe’s offers CPR, first aid courses

On April 22, Saint Joseph’s College in Standish will offer two CPR and first aid training courses for members of the community. Through guided instruction and hands-on practice with a certified instructor, participants will gain confidence in caring for adults, children and infants.

The first course focuses on American Red Cross adult CPR, AED and first aid, and occurs from 6:30-8 p.m. The second course adds a child/infant component, and that course runs from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

These courses train individuals to respond to emergencies in their communities, workplaces and home. Topics covered include how to respond to and care for unconscious victims, breathing emergencies, sudden illness, bleeding and more.

This is a blended learning course that combines online learning with on-site skills sessions. Plan to complete the initial online lessons of the training at least two days prior to the on-site skills session.

Registration for the adult CPR, AED, and first aid course is $70. Recertification is $50. Registration for the course with the additional child/infant component is $80, and recertification is $60. Both courses are held in the Harold Alfond Center on Saint Joseph’s campus in Standish. Registration is available online at www.sjcme.edu/alfond/redcross/cpr. April is National Donate Life Month

Bridgton Hospital will celebrate the 12th annual National Donate Life Month this April, commemorating those who have given the gift of life through organ and tissue donation.

Throughout April you will see the Donate Life flag hanging in the rotunda, along with blue and green lights, which are the colors of the New England Organ Bank. Keeping in this theme, April 17 is Donate Life Day, where everyone will be asked to wear green and blue.

In addition to organ donation, tissue donations help more than 1 million individuals each year. Heart valve, bone and skin donations give recipients a new chance at a healthy life, the recovery of tendons and ligaments can help heal a severe sports injury, and cornea donations give the gift of sight.

To register as a donor or for more information, visit www.DonateLifeNewEngland.org.
