A confrontation between a Knox County sheriff’s deputy and a man he was trying to arrest turned violent Wednesday.

Deputy Jeremy Joslyn was sent to a home in Owls Head to arrest Ronald Harding Jr., 40, on a warrant charging him with criminal mischief, said Chief Deputy Timothy Carroll. When Josyln pulled into the driveway, Harding, who was sitting in his truck, ran toward the house. Josyln ran after him, ordering him to stop and saying he was under arrest.

Joslyn tackled Harding. As the two scuffled, Harding tried to remove a dagger from a sleeve of his jacket, but Josyln disarmed him, said Carroll.

At that point, Harding removed a .40-caliber pistol from his side pocket, but Joslyn pulled it from Harding’s grasp. Another deputy arrived and they handcuffed Harding. The officers found an electronic stun gun, a steel baton and several knives in Harding’s possession, said Carroll.

After being treated for cuts to the bridge of his nose and his tongue, Harding was taken to the Knox County Jail, where he was charged with refusing to submit to arrest, criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, and carrying a concealed weapon.

Joslyn sustained a minor hand injury.
