Holy Week continues this weekend with several local congregations planning special Good Friday and Easter services. Among them:
The Neighborhood United Church of Christ
BATH — The Bath United Church of Christ will celebrate Easter in its new worship space at 798 Washington St., the former Admiral Steakhouse.
A Good Friday service begins at 7 p.m. today. On Sunday, April 5, there will be a 10 a.m. worship service. (See related story, page A7.)
Grace Episcopal Church
BATH — A Good Friday liturgy will be celebrated today at 7 p.m. at Grace Episcopal Church.
On Easter Sunday, a festival Eucharist is planned at 8 a.m., followed by a festival Eucharist at 10:30 a.m. that features the children’s church.

All Saints youth ministry to climb mountain
BRUNSWICK — Members of All Saints Parish’s youth ministry will participate in an Easter Sunrise Service on Bradbury Mountain in Pownal on Sunday, April 5.
All high school students, and middle school students accompanied by a parent, are invited to join the group for the ecumenical service which will be co-sponsored by First Parish Congregational Church in Pownal, First Baptist Church in Freeport, and All Saints Parish, which is comprised of St. Charles Borromeo and St. John the Baptist churches in Brunswick; St. Mary Church, Bath; Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Boothbay Harbor; St. Katherine Drexel Church, Harpswell; St. Ambrose Church, Richmond; and St. Patrick Church, Newcastle.
“Jesus’s Resurrection is the perfect occasion for Christian churches to come together to praise him! We drive to Pownal, park at the state park and climb to the summit by 6 a.m.,” said Sheila Murphy, the coordinator of youth ministry at All Saints Parish. “The service involves an ‘Easter shout’ of ‘He is risen!’ at the top of your lungs. It also includes hymns, a short sermon and a time for people to say what God has done for them.”
Murphy’s husband, Deacon John Murphy, will lead the group in prayer this year. After the services, participants are invited to gather at First Parish Congregational Church on 461 Elmwood Road in Pownal for hot chocolate, coffee and doughnuts. Many participants will gather at St. Charles Borromeo Church on 132 McKeen St. in Brunswick at 5 a.m. to car pool to the mountain, with a return scheduled for around 8 a.m.

Popham Chapel
PHIPPSBURG — The Popham Chapel, located in the Popham Beach village on Route 209, will hold its traditional Easter morning service on Sunday, April 5, at 10 a.m.
The Rev. Ed McCartan will be the pastor, and will officiate the nondenominational service, with music by Richard Hankinson. All are welcome to the service, followed by a coffee hour in the Chapel House next door.
Phippsburg Congregational Church
PHIPPSBURG — Phippsburg Congregational Church will be open today for prayer from noon-3 p.m. in observance of Good Friday.
An Easter service will be celebrated on Sunday, April 5, at 10 a.m.

St. Paul’s Episcopal Church
BRUNSWICK — St. Paul’s Episcopal Church will wrap up Holy Week by celebrating “The Great Vigil of Easter” at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 4.
A festival Holy Eucharist with choir and brass is planned Sunday at 8 a.m. A second festival Holy Eucharist with junior and adult choirs and brass follows at 10:30 a.m.

All Saints Parish
BRUNSWICK — All Saints Parish will hold a Good Friday service with Stations of the Cross at St. Ambrose Church in Richmond and St. John the Baptist Church in Brunswick, today at 3 p.m.
Tonight, St. Mary Church in Bath will celebrate the Lord’s Passion at 7 p.m.
A Holy Saturday Easter vigil will be held at St. John’s at 8 p.m. There will be no 4 or 6 p.m. Masses at any All Saints Parish churches on Saturday, April 4.
Resurrection Sunday will feature services at St. Ambrose and St. John’s at 8 a.m., St. Katharine Drexel in Harpswell and St. Mary’s at 9:30 a.m., two simultaneous Masses at 10:30 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo in Brunswick, and an 11 a.m. service at St. John’s.

First Parish Church, UCC
BRUNSWICK — First Parish Church, UCC, is planning an Easter sunrise service at 6 a.m. on Sunday, April 5, on the bicycle path off Water Street.
A second worship service will be held at the church at 10 a.m., and will feature performances by the Adult, Westminster, Junior and Cherub choirs, as well as the Chapel Ringers and Brass Quartet.

Church of the New Jerusalem
BATH — The Church of the New Jerusalem is planning special music during its 10:30 a.m. Easter Sunday service on April 5.
The church is located at the corner of Middle and Winter streets in Bath. Special music will be provided by Jesse Feinberg.
Day’s Ferry Congregational Church
WOOLWICH — The Resurrection will be celebrated at Day’s Ferry Congregational Church on Easter Sunday, April 5, beginning with breakfast at 9 a.m. Following the meal will be an Easter worship service at 10 a.m.
The service will be led by the Rev. Alan Baughcum.

Freeport-Pownal community
POWNAL — An Easter sunrise service will be held Sunday, April 5, on the peak of Bradbury Mountain at 6 a.m., with Pastor Sandy Williams officiating.
For those unable to climb, there will be a simultaneous service under the shelter at the foot of the mountain led by the Rev. John Wentworth. Should the weather be severely inclement, the service will be held at the First Parish Congregational Church in Pownal.
Coffee and doughnuts will be served at the Pownal church following the services. The services, sponsored by First Parish Congregational and First Baptist Church of Freeport, are open to all.

Woolwich-Wiscasset Baptist Church

Resurrection Sunday begins with an Easter sunrise service at 6 a.m. on April 5, followed by an second worship service at 11 a.m.

Edgecomb Congregational Church, UCC
EDGECOMB — Edgecomb Congregational Church will celebrate Easter Sunday on April 5. A sunrise service will be held at 6:15 a.m. at Fort Edgecomb, 66 Old Fort Road. At 9:30 a.m., worship moves to the sanctuary of Edgecomb Congregational Church, as those gathered greet the risen Christ with a service of word and praise.
An Easter morning breakfast will be served between the services, beginning at 7:30 a.m., and include frittatas, muffins, fruit, yogurt, granola, oatmeal, juice and coffee. Donations are gratefully accepted.

Free worship concerts with John Waller
AUGUSTA — Contemporary Christian recording artist John Waller will wrap up his three-stop free Maine tour today with a show at Old Town Christian Fellowship at 7 p.m.
Waller’s music was featured in the movie “Courageous” and his song “While I’m Waiting” was the title track for “Fireproof.” His new song, “Crazy Faith,” will also be the title song for the new movie, “The War Room.” The latest Kendrick Brothers production is due to be released in August.
The concert is free and a love offering wil be taken.
