CASTLETON, Vt. — Matt Richard scored three goals and added seven assists as the New England College men’s lacrosse team earned a 27-2 North Atlantic Conference victory over Green Mountain College on Tuesday evening at Spartan Stadium.

New England was also buoyed by Nick Herzog who had three goals and four assists, while Mike Aitoro notched one goal and four assists.

Green Mountain was led by Nick Mazzali and Richard Aberle, Jr., who each tallied a goal, while former Mt. Ararat High School standout Nick Parsons notched an assist and a gamehigh nine groundballs.

NEC’s Herzog opened the scoring at the 13:22 mark of the first quarter when he hooked up with teammate William Pendleton on a tick tack passing play. The visitors poured in four more unanswered goals before the Eagles were able to get on the board.

NEC added 16 consecutive goals before halftime to blow the game wide open, taking a decisive 21-1 lead into the half. Eleven different goal scorers added to the scoring ledger as the Pilgrims distributed the ball evenly amongst its attackers.

GMC’s Aberle, Jr. closed out the scoring on the afternoon by converting a Parsons feed.

The Pilgrims outshot the Eagles 41-17 on the evening while also winning the battle on the ground, holding a 34-19 edge in groundballs. Pendleton was successful at the face-off “X” going 6-of-7 for the Pilgrims.
