Chorale, chamber singers in concert
The Wescustago Youth Chorale and the University of Southern Maine Chamber Singers present their third annual joint concert on Tuesday, March 31, at 7 p.m., at Sacred Heart Church, 326 Main St., Yarmouth.
Both groups will perform special selections, and then join together for a few combined pieces. Wescustago Youth Chorale is conducted by Amanda Mahaffey and Jennifer Hand Runge, and the University of Southern Maine Chamber Singers are conducted by Dr. Robert Russell.

Werner runner-up in state poetry
Ella Werner, a Freeport resident and sophomore at Yarmouth High School, was the runner-up in the 2015 Poetry Out Loud competition held March 11 at the Waterville Opera House.
Werner, daughter of Jonas and Kate Werner, finished second to Mt. Ararat High School junior Rose Horowitz.
Both students will receive cash awards and their schools will receive prize money to purchase poetry books for their libraries. Horowoitz won $200 in cash and $500 for school books, and will represent Maine at the National Poetry Out Loud Finals on April 28-29 in Washington, D.C. Werner won $100 in cash and $200 for books.
Werner recited “Life Cycle of Common Man,” by Howard Nemerov; “Monet Refuses the Operation,” by Lisel Mueller; and “As Kingfishers Catch Fire,” by Gerard Manley Hopkins.
Horowitz recited “Lovers’ Infiniteness,” by John Donne; “Discrimination,” by Kenneth Rexroth;, and “Entirely” by Louis MacNiece. Poetry Out Loud is sponsored annually at the state level by the Maine Arts Commission. This year’s competition included almost 10,000 students in 45 public and private Maine high schools.
Artist reception
An artist’s reception for George Mason will be held Sunday, March 22, from 2-4 p.m., at Merrill Memorial Library, 215 Main St. Mason’s exhibit, “Embracing Process,” is on display at the library through May 2.
Wellness Fair April 11
The 10th annual Yarmouth Wellness Fair is Saturday, April 11, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., at the Rowe School. It is co-hosted by the Yarmouth Chamber of Commerce and Yarmouth Community Services.
The fair showcases local holistic and integrative health-care businesses, and provides an opportunity for people to learn about diverse health and healing practices via presentations and practical demonstrations. Exhibitors at the fair will include holistic and integrative healthcare providers that offer a wide range of healing and health-enhancing services. Admission is free. Movie night
Merrill Memorial Library hosts a free Family Movie Night on Friday, March 20, at 6 p.m., featuring PG-rated “Big Hero 6.” Free popcorn will be served. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult.
Looking ahead to 50th clam fest
This year is a special one as the Yarmouth Clam Festival celebrates its 50th anniversary. Appropriately, this year’s parade theme is “#flashback Friday: 50 years on Parade.” Floats should reflect something, someone, or an event that has had significance in the last half century.

The festival will be held July 17-19.
Book group selects next novel
The Merrill Memorial Library’s next Readers Circle book group selection is “We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves,” by Karen Joy Fowler. The discussion will be held Thursday, March 26, at 7 p.m., at the library, 215 Main St.
Parking ban
The all-night, on-street parking ban is in effect through April 15. This is an effort to keep the streets clear for snow removal. According to the police department, all-night parking is defined as parking for more than one hour between midnight and 6 a.m. This applies to all public streets within the town.
