Rielly signing books

Bowdoin College student Morgan Rielly of Westbrook wqill sign copies of his book, “Neighborhood Heroes: Life Lessons Learned from Maine’s Greatest Generation,” at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 26, at Longfellow Books, 1 Monument Way, in Portland

The book sells for $15.95.

“‘Neighborhood Heroes’ is the story of 26 Maine World War II veterans and the life lessons they taught Morgan,” his father, Brendan Rielly, president of the Westbrook City Council, said. “A percentage of each sale goes to the Travis Mills Project and Wounded Veterans’ Family Camp in Maine.”

WHS one-act play

Westbrook High School’s Drama Department will be presenting the one-act play, “Property Rites,” by Alan Haehnel, on Wednesday, March 4, at 7 p.m. in the Westbrook High School Auditorium.

General admission is $5.

“This production is Westbrook’s 2015 Regional One Act Festival competition submission,” Rick Solomon, director of Westbrook’s Theater Department, said Tuesday. “The regional festival on March 6 and 7 will be held at Falmouth High School.”

Genetic genealogy historical society topic

Nancy Mason will speak when Westbrook Historical Society meets at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4, at Westbrook Community Center, 426 Bridge St.

Mason is a genetic genealogist who has been doing traditional genealogy research for more than 30 years. She travels when and wherever she can to attend workshops and conferences and to give presentations about genetic genealogy.

She was born in Portland and grew up in Cumberland. She has many stories to share about using DNA to assist with traditional research.

This is a follow-up to the February program on the Irish Heritage Center genealogy research.

End-of-life workshop

Trinity Lutheran Church, 612 Main St. in Westbrook, will be holding a workshop dealing with end of life concerns on Saturday, Feb. 28, from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Topics will include advanced directives, powers of attorney, wills, planning funeral/memorial services, obituaries, facing your own death and that of loved ones, and dealing with grief.

Harnois to entertain seniors

Brad Harnois and friends will sing when Westbrook Senior Citizens meet at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, March 2, at Westbrook Community Center, 426 Bridge St.

The seniors are planning two trips. The group will see the Irish Cabaret at Venus de Milo in Massachusetts on Wednesday, March 11, and travel to Ireland May 2-9. For more information about trips, call 854-2705 or 883-5046.

Woman’s club to meet

Westbrook Woman’s Club will meet at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 3, at Westbrook-Warren Congregational Church, 810 Main St. The project for the meeting will be filling sunshine baskets for several Westbrook residents. Members are reminded to take items for the baskets. Light refreshments will be served.

Vassell named to dean’s list

Ackelia Nerine Vassell of Westbrook has been named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at Clemson University in Clemson, S. C. Vassell is majoring in communication studies.
