Boys
Cody Hughes, Marshwood wrestling: Hughes set the record for career wins by a Maine high school wrestler and captured his fourth Class A state championship. He finished the championship meet with 205 career wins, passing Peter Bronder of Noble, who amassed 203 wins from 2006-09. Hughes became the 18th four-time state champion in Maine history with his title in the 170-pound class.
Honorable mention
Jackson Howarth, Marshwood wrestling: Howarth was named the outstanding wrestler at the Class A state championships after winning the 160-pound division for his fourth consecutive individual state championship.
Matt Pelletier, South Portland basketball: Pelletier scored all of his game-high 22 points in the second half, with 14 coming in the third quarter, to help the Red Riots take control after trailing Cheverus by two points at halftime in a 65-45 win in the Western Class A quarterfinals.
Michael Curtis, Wells wrestling: Curtis won the 220-pound title at the Class B state championships. Wells pinned all three of his opponents. His 220-pound title goes with his 170-pound championship as a sophomore and his 195-pound title as a junior.
Girls
Tori Daigle, Thornton Academy indoor track: Daigle led the Golden Trojans to their second straight Class A state title as she won three events and broke her own meet record in the long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 2 inches. Daigle also won the triple jump and the 55-meter hurdles.
Honorable mention
Kate Hall, Lake Region indoor track: Hall broke two of her own state records and tied another at the Class B state championships. She set records in the long jump (19-61/2) and 200 (25.17), and equaled her state-record time in the 55 (7.05).
Mariah Brady, Biddeford swimming: Brady was named performer of the meet in the Class A girls’ swimming and diving championship after she won the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle races at Bowdoin College.
Emma Egan, Yarmouth indoor track: Egan set a Class B record in the high jump with a leap of 5-41/2 at the state championships.
