Ahead of this weekend’s ice fishing derby on Sebago Lake, hosted by the Sebago Lake Rotary Club, Maine Game Warden Service issued the following information on Thursday regarding ice and weather conditions on the lake:

“Sebago Lake has the same (good) conditions as last year’s derby…The entire lake is frozen. There is some slush under the snow but this is very apparent.

“Jordan Bay and Lower Bay have the oldest ice averaging 10 to 12 inches with an average depth of 16 inches against the shoreline. Big Bay (also known as Great Bay) has been frozen for 1 week with strong ice developing nightly. The thinnest and most dangerous ice conditions are on the northern shore of Big Bay from Outer Island across the Songo River toward Point Sebago.

“Please remember that ice conditions should be inspected at ALL times before going out. Fish at your own risk.”
