No matter what one thinks of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), there is no question that health insurance makes a difference for individual and community wellbeing. Primary care and prevention translates to a healthy and more productive population. The sheer numbers of Mainers who have signed up — 44,000 for 2014 and over 62,000 for 2015 – attests to the fact that many have been waiting for this opportunity to have coverage that is affordable. Low income Mainers are benefiting from federal subsidies.

Yes, there are problems with the law and the implementation. Yes, there are some scenarios that seem downright unfair. Each of us can encourage our law makers to work on these problems.
