Timely Reminder
Free sand is available at Public Works throughout the winter months. The pickup hours are Monday through Friday from 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m. and weekends that Public Works crews are plowing. Please remember that sand is for residents only. No contractors will be allowed. When you enter through the gates follow the driveway down the hill. The covered shed is on the right hand side. Each resident is allowed two buckets of five gallons at a time. This sand is mixed with road salt. You must bring your own buckets and a shovel.
Auditions
On Thursday and Friday, Feb. 5-6, Windham Center Stage Theater will hold auditions for “Thoroughly Modern Millie” at Windham High School auditorium from 6-9 p.m. Please plan to be at either Thursday or Friday at 6 p.m. and stay until you are released. Callbacks will be 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7, at WHS auxiliary gym (next to auditorium). For more information, email windhamcenterstagetheater@gmail.com.
Haddock Dinner
The Windham Knights of Columbus will hold a baked haddock dinner on Saturday, Feb. 7, from 5-6 p.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. Dinner includes fresh baked haddock, mashed potatoes, fresh vegetables, rolls, coleslaw, coffee/tea/punch and homemade dessert buffet. A pizza alternative will be available. Adults are $9, children 12 and under $4. Dinners are available to go. The proceeds of the dinner will benefit Neighbors Helping Neighbors Fuel Assistance program for people in need of fuel during this hard winter.
Bean Supper
A baked bean supper will be held on Saturday, Feb. 7, at the White Rock Community Club, Wilson Road, Gorham, from 4:30-6 p.m. The menu includes two kinds of baked beans, hot dogs, coleslaw, potato salad, macaroni and cheese, homemade biscuits and pies, punch and coffee. $8 for adults, $4 for children 6-12; free for children 5 and under.
Senior Citizens’ Valentine Lunch
Unity Gardens in Windham will have their Valentine Luncheon on Thursday, Feb. 12, at noon. Lunch includes lasagna, salad, garlic bread and dessert. Reservations are required by Feb. 9. Please call Virginia at Windham Community Cafe? 892-3891. If unable to make the luncheon please call Virginia by Tuesday, Feb. 10.
VFW Meets
Windham VFW will meet on Wednesday, Feb. 11, at the Veterans Center in North Windham. Supper is at 5 p.m. with business meeting at 6 p.m.
Veterans Support
Veteran’s Service Officer Matt Haley will be at the Windham Veterans Center from 9 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Feb. 11, for any veteran or veteran’s dependent who has questions or needs information.

Texas Hold ’Em Poker
Like to play poker? At Dena’s Restaurant, Windham Veterans Association hosts Texas Hold ’Em Poker on the first and third Wednesdays each month, starting at 7 p.m. Sign up is at 6:30 p.m. and anyone signed up by 6:45 gets a free $1,000 chip. Proceeds benefit the Veterans Center building and operations. Dena’s Restaurant is next to Windham Post Office – great food and drinks available. Next date is Feb. 18.
Syrup Making
A program about the history of maple syrup making will be presented by Windham Historical Society on Saturday, Feb. 21, at 9 a.m. at the public meeting room of the library. Lyle Merrifield of Merrifield Farms will tell us all about this unique product. Refreshments will be available. A $5 donation is suggested to further expand the Society’s educational community projects.
Visit Animals
The Maine State Society for the Protection of Animals welcomes the public to visit its facility in South Windham, and meet the animals available for adoption. Admission to the 279 River Road farm is free, and it is open to the public every day of the year from 1-4 p.m.
Opening March 13
Windham Center Stage Theater has just begun rehearsals for its star-quality children’s production of Little Mermaid Jr. Don’t forget to set aside time to see Ariel, Ursula and Sebastian with their whole chorus of other colorful sea creatures! Abandoned Cemetery?
The Windham Historical Society is seeking the location of “abandoned” or unknown, perhaps old family, burial grounds in town.
