New Gloucester Fire & Rescue were dispatched to 329 Bennett Road at 3 p.m. Thursday after a passerby noticed smoke coming from the eaves of the home.
When the first engine arrived on scene, firefighters confronted a working structure fire. New Gloucester Capt. Ryan Mitchell summoned for the “All Hands” activating additional resources. No one was home at the time of the blaze. There were no injuries reported at the scene.
New Gloucester was assisted by about 30 firefighters from Gray, Poland, Raymond, Durham and Pownal fire departments. The fire was knocked down within an hour.
“We can contribute the quick knockdown and accessibility to the homeowner for having his driveway and paths cleared. Had they not been, firefighters would had a greater struggle. It’s important to keep drives, doors, and paths clear for all fire, EMS and police, especially with all this snow,” said Capt. Scott Doyle.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
