Stephen Alex, Portland basketball: Alex scored 21 points in a 65-62 win over Deering and capped a key three-game stretch with a 29-point effort in a 78-71 win over Scarborough that extended the Bulldogs’ two-year winning streak to 35 games. In between he scored nine points in a win over Marshwood.

HONORABLE MENTION

Brandon Daigle, Biddeford hockey: One of the state’s top goalies, Daigle made 47 saves to lead the Tigers to a 1-0 upset of Falmouth.

Ben Malloy, Bonny Eagle basketball: Malloy scored 24 points with seven rebounds, five assists and four steals in a 68-50 win over Scarborough, then added 33 points in a 64-49 victory against Massabesic.

Jake Perron, Falmouth swimming: In a meet Friday in Cape Elizabeth, Perron set a pool record of 47.67 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle and a Falmouth school record of 1:05.73 in the 100 breast stroke

GIRLS

Charlotte Janelle, Falmouth diving: Janelle won the York County Diving Invitational by more than 160 points with a score of 425.80 for 11 dives. That score not only set a pool record at the Northern York County YMCA but ranks third in state history, behind Katie Mailman and Nicola Mancini, both of Falmouth as well. Janelle is the defending Class A state champion who won Class B as a freshman.

HONORABLE MENTION

Emily Esposito, Gorham basketball: She scored 25 points against tough defense and keyed a late-game rally as the Rams beat Thornton Academy 53-48 on Monday. Esposito also scored 20 in a 57-21 win against Noble.

Maddie Hasson, South Portland basketball: After scoring 14 points and sparking a 20-2 game-opening run in a 60-45 win against Cheverus, Hasson followed up with 22 points, nine rebounds, three assists and four steals in a 68-50 win against Marshwood.

Sami Shoebottom, Scarborough hockey: After scoring three goals against Greely, Shoebottom tallied twice in a 3-3 tie with unbeaten Lewiston.
