BRUNSWICK — On Tuesday, the Brunswick Town Council may vote on its contract with its law firm, Preti Flaherty, including a $3,000 monthly retainer.
The contract is similar to one signed last year, when the council signed with Preti Flaherty over longtime counsel Bernstein Shur, that saw attorney Stephen Langsdorf attending council meetings regularly.
As a cost-savings measure, the town will provide Preti Flaherty with a list of personnel who are authorized to request legal services.
Preti Flaherty will also agree to provide Brunswick with an estimate of billable hours for services not covered by the retainer upon request of Town Manager John Eldridge, and to monitor the billable hours of its partners, associates, paralegals and other personnel.
The council voted Jan. 5 to reappoint Preti Flaherty as legal counsel, but had not authorized a contract.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
