Elwell competes
Dawn Elwell will be competing in the Mrs. Maine Pageant to be held on March 22. Dawn was born and raised in Maine and is a married mother of three beautiful children; Cooper who will be 13 in February, Braedyn who will be 7 this month and Adelynn who will be 3 in March. She is married to her best friend Nick Elwell who she met when she was 16 years old and they have been together ever since. Dawn says she is very fortunate and happy to be able to be a full-time, stay-home mom.
Dawn joined the pageant to meet other women with the same family values she has. The Mrs. America pageant stood out to her because of their core values being built around recognizing the accomplishments of married women and stay-at-home mothers all across the country. She has met many wonderful people this past year throughout this journey volunteering with people at the Sebago Lake Chamber of Commerce where she is now an active member. She is also a volunteer for the U Can 5K race right here in Raymond to benefit Candace Woolston.
Dawn is also a trained vocalist, with a passion for music and the arts. The competition is right around the corner on March 22 at the Fore Seasons in Portland. Tickets are $30 each in advance or $35 at the door. She would love to see as many fellow Raymonders in attendance as possible. At the Library
• Financial Information Workshop: It’s smart. It’s free. It could change your life! Join Judy Simoneau and Crystal Rogers from Prevarica on Wednesday, Jan. 28, at 6 p.m. for a financial workshop to learn about the various kinds of saving accounts, ways to reduce debt, retirement savings strategies how life insurance works and most importantly the high cost of waiting to save. Space is limited. Call 655-4283 or email sally.holt@raymondvillagelibrary.org to reserve your spot. Light refreshments will be served.
• Book Group: This reading group will meet on Thursday, Jan. 29, at 7 p.m. at the library to discuss Maine Author Monica Woods’s “Ernie’s Ark.” This is a book of connected stories set in the fictional paper mill town of Abbott Falls, Maine. When the paper mill goes out on strike, Ernie Whitten, a pipefitter taking care of his dying wife, builds an ark in his backyard, an act of faith and defiance that reverberates throughout the community in unexpected ways. The characters that populate “Ernie’s Ark” fulfill one of the author’s recurring themes – the inevitable and often misdirected human desire for connection. We invite all interested readers to join us and share their take on this unusual novel. For more information call the library at 655-4283.
