Just in time to begin working with Town Manager Peter Joseph on the municipal budget, Jessica Maloy of Lisbon is on the payroll as Freeport’s finance director.
Maloy, approved by unanimous vote of the Town Council on Jan. 6, begins her new job on Jan. 20. She will be paid $70,000 annually. She is leaving her position as finance director in Lisbon, and succeeds Abbe Yacoben in the Freeport post. Yacoben left the Freeport job on Jan. 5 to become finance director in Avondale, Ariz.
Maloy, a 1996 graduate of Lisbon High School, has been finance director, treasurer and tax collector in her hometown since 2010. Standing in the back of the Town Council chambers when the council approved her, Maloy said she was honored with the appointment.
She will work with Joseph on the 2015-2016 budget, with Town Council deliberations beginning in February.
“We’ll see Jessica sooner rather than later for budget season,” Town Council Chairwoman Melanie Sachs said.
Joseph introduced Maloy to the council, telling councilors that she was among four candidates for the job interviewed, among 20 candidates who applied. Maloy “rose to the top,” Joseph said.
“I’m excited that you’re coming on board, Jessica,” Sachs said.
