Open a jar of raspberry jam, and you expect to smell raspberries.

Open a jar of Above the Dam Jam’s Raspberry Chocolate Jam, and it’s chocolate that comes singing through with the strongest notes.

This little family-owned company, based in Dayton, takes seasonal ingredients and develops interesting flavor combinations for its products. Think strawberry-basil jam, or a jelly made with stout. (Yes, beer.) The raspberry-chocolate jam makes a good winter comfort condiment for that time of year when chocolate tastes good on anything. At $8.50 for 8.5 ounces, it’s a bit pricey, but may be easier to justify purchasing when the lack of sunlight has sapped your body of endorphins.

Above the Dam Jam also makes peanut butters, including one with honey and sea salt, one with cinnamon and honey, and yes, one with chocolate.

Bring it on, Old Man Winter.
