WOOLWICH
The occupants of two colliding vehicles escaped serious injury in a crash on Route 1 Monday afternoon that backed up traffic in both directions.
The crash was reported at the intersection of Route 1 and Mountain Road at about 4:30 p.m. Chief Deputy Brett Strout with the Sagadahoc County Sheriff ’s Department said Tina Saltmarsh, 40, of North Hampton, New Hampshire, was driving a 2008 Mercedes south on Route 1 when a 2010 Honda driven by Daniel Evards, 44, of Woolwich, turned left from the Mountain Road into the path of the Mercedes.
Saltmarsh had a 13-yearold daughter and 11-year-old son in the backseat and Evards was the sole occupant in his vehicle. Only minor injuries were sustained and no one was transported, Strout said.
Traffic was tied up for a long distance after the crash, Strout said. Woolwich Fire and EMS and North East Mobile Health Services responded to the scene with the sheriff ’s department. No charges were filed.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
