PORTLAND — The Old Orchard Beach boys basketball team battled hard with undefeated Waynflete, but the Seagulls would come up on the wrong side of a 51-37 score on Friday night.
Old Orchard Beach, which trailed 18-9 after the first quarter, would battle back to within five late in the second half, but the Seagulls couldn’t get any closer.
“I thought we competed hard. The kids gave 100 percent, we just had a couple cases where we didn’t get stops when we needed them,” said OOB coach John Regan.
Zach Hirst led the Seagulls with 19 points, including four 3-pointers, and Evan Christensen chipped in with 14 points in the loss.
Waynflete was led by Milo Belleau with 24 points.
OOB, which falls to 1-3, will compete in the Biddeford Christmas Tournament next week.
Marshwood 63, Biddeford 36
The visiting Marshwood Hawks scored 26 points in the first quarter as they rolled to a win over the Tigers.
Biddeford would continue to fight throughout the game, according to coach Justin Tardif, who saw his team outscore Marshwood in the second half.
Patrick Pearl led Biddeford with 12 points, while teammate Caleb Ball took two offensive charges and added five points.
